The Public Prosecution in Egypt ordered, on Wednesday, the imprisonment of the drivers of the passenger bus and the Nile ferry accused of causing the drowning of 11 girls, and that they be subjected to tests for drug use.
The Public Prosecution also instructed the Civil Defense Forces to continue searching for the missing girls, seize the bus and the ferry at the scene of the incident, and form a tripartite committee to inspect and examine the ferry to determine its technical suitability for work, the method of its operation, the availability of rescue and safety equipment on board, the strength of its crew, and the role of each of them, up to To explain whoever caused the incident and determine his role and responsibility for it, the Public Prosecution also ordered the bus to be examined to determine its technical safety.
The Public Prosecution revealed, in a statement, that the accident resulted in the drowning of 11 girls, whose bodies were recovered by the Civil Defense Forces, the loss of 5 girls, the injury of two, and the survival of 7 others.
It explained that it had begun its investigations into the accident of a passenger bus - a microbus with 25 girls on board - falling from the top of the ferryboat across the two banks of Al-Riyah Al-Buhairi in the Abu Ghaleb area in Giza Governorate. A prosecution team moved to the scene of the accident.
Investigations concluded that the accident occurred the moment the ferry arrived at the berth on the western side of the wind, where it shook - as is common - when it collided with its berthing site in preparation for stopping, and as a result of the bus driver’s failure to use its brakes and left it to her; The bus turned back, while the person responsible for operating the ferry did not close its rear iron door, which ensured that what it was carrying would not fall on its roof, which resulted in the bus falling into the water.
The investigations also revealed that the ferry operating license had expired since August of last year.
