On Thursday, the Iranian army published the results of preliminary investigations into the causes of the late President Ebrahim Raisi’s helicopter crash.
The first report issued by the General Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces said that a large portion of relevant information was collected in various specialized, technical and general fields that could be related to the incident.
The following are the highlights of the report:
Some actions require more time to express a conclusive opinion, and they are under investigation, and some cases can be stated with certainty, which are:
- The helicopter actually continued on the planned route and did not deviate from the specified flight path.
- About a minute and a half before the helicopter accident occurred, the pilot of the helicopter that was involved in the accident communicated with the other two helicopters from the aviation group.
- No traces of gunshots or anything similar were observed on the body of the late president’s helicopter.
- About a minute and a half before the helicopter crashed, its pilot communicated with the two helicopters accompanying it.
- The crashed helicopter caught fire after colliding with a hill.
- Due to the complexity of the area, fog and low temperature, the search operation extended throughout the night.
- On Monday morning (5 a.m.), with the help of (Iranian) drones, the exact location was determined and the wreckage of the late president’s helicopter was found.
- No suspicious situations were observed in control tower conversations with the flight crew.
