The Irish government announced, on Tuesday, the appointment of an ambassador to the State of Palestine, following its recognition as an independent state.
For its part, the Irish Ministry of Foreign Affairs said: “The government’s decision today authorizes the establishment of full diplomatic relations with the State of Palestine. Based on an official request from the Palestinian authorities, the government will upgrade the status of the Palestinian mission in Ireland to an embassy, and allow the appointment of an ambassador from the State of Palestine.” In Ireland.
The statement added: “Our decision today also authorizes the upgrade of the current Irish representative office in Ramallah to an embassy.”
Earlier today, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez stated that recognition of the Palestinian state had entered into force.
He pointed out that the adoption of the decision to recognize the State of Palestine is in line with UN resolutions and is not directed against any party, saying: “We are committed to security in the region and we will work with the Arab countries to hold a peace conference.”
Earlier today, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez affirmed that “recognition of the State of Palestine is a historic step that allows the Palestinians and Israelis to achieve peace,” noting that Spain joins more than 140 countries that recognize Palestine as an independent state.
