The Iranian Al-Alam channel claimed that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia expelled 6 members of the media team accompanying the Iranian pilgrims delegation, on Tuesday.
CNN contacted the Saudi authorities to obtain a comment, but there was no response at the time of writing this report.
The Iranian channel said in its report: “This media team, consisting of 6 journalists and a documentary director, was arrested last Tuesday while recording the recitation of the Holy Qur’an in the Prophet’s Mosque, and after a few hours of investigation, they were transferred to the Central Police Detention Center in Medina. This media team was expelled from Saudi Arabia last night without performing the Hajj pilgrimage
The channel added in its report: “Two days later, the Saudi police arrested two journalists, one of them a correspondent from Al-Alam channel and a radio and television correspondent, when they got out of the car to attend ‘Du’a Kamil’ in the hotel where the Iranian pilgrims were staying, without doing any work.” They were taken to the detention center.”
The channel continued its report: “The expulsion of this Iranian mission’s media team from Saudi Arabia came while our country’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the representation of the Guardian Jurist for Hajj and Umrah Affairs, the head of the Iranian pilgrims’ delegation, and our country’s ambassador to the Kingdom were following up on the issue of releasing these people.”
