Algerian Foreign Minister Ahmed Attaf discussed on Tuesday, during a phone call with his American counterpart Anthony Blinken, the conditions for the Security Council to adopt US President Joe Biden’s proposal on Gaza.
The Algerian Foreign Ministry statement stated that “Minister Ahmed Attaf received, today, Tuesday, a phone call from his American counterpart, Anthony Blinken, during which he discussed developments in the situation in the Gaza Strip.”

The Algerian Foreign Minister stressed “the necessity of seizing the opportunities offered by this initiative to ensure that it falls within the framework of achieving the goal of a permanent ceasefire, that it puts an end to the ordeals endured by the Palestinian people in Gaza, and that it constitutes, finally, a step towards a final, just and lasting settlement.” to the conflict, through the establishment of an independent Palestinian state in accordance with international legitimacy, and as an embodiment of the growing will of the international community.”
Qatar announced on Tuesday that it had handed over to Hamas an Israeli proposal that reflects the positions put forward by US President Joe Biden, stressing that the proposal is now much closer to the positions of both sides.
On May 31, US President Joe Biden announced a three-stage proposal that includes a ceasefire in Gaza, the release of hostages, and the reconstruction of the Strip.
When announcing the proposal, Biden said that he would begin a six-week phase that would witness the withdrawal of Israeli forces from all populated areas in the Gaza Strip and an initial exchange of hostages and prisoners, and negotiations would also take place between Israel and the Palestinians for a permanent ceasefire, with the truce continuing as long as the talks continue. He considered that “the time has come for this war to end.”
Commenting on the proposal, Israel said that it is still seeking to achieve all its goals in the Gaza Strip, while Hamas announced that it views the proposal “positively.”
