Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the Arab League, strongly condemned the attack launched by the Sudanese Rapid Support Forces, yesterday, Wednesday, against the “Wad Al-Noura” area in Al-Jazira State in central Sudan, which led to the death of more than a hundred civilians.
The Secretary-General of the Arab League expressed his sincere condolences to the families of the victims of this “massacre” and his wishes for a speedy recovery for the wounded and injured, according to the German News Agency.
Jamal Rushdi, the official spokesman for the Secretary-General, affirmed “the Arab League’s full support for the efforts made to stop the ongoing conflict in Sudan and restore the role of the Sudanese state at all levels.”
“Wad Al-Noura” is located at the end of the extension of the Gezira project and the beginning of the borders of the White Nile State, and it is commercially linked to Khartoum State.
Local activists accused the Sudanese Rapid Support Forces of carrying out an attack on the village of Wad Al Noura in Al Jazeera State (central Sudan), on Wednesday, and that they “killed at least 100 people.”
An investigation into “Wad Al Noura”
For her part, the Humanitarian Coordinator in Sudan, Clementine Nkweta Salami, called for an investigation into the circumstances of what happened in the village of “Wad Al-Noura” in the Sudanese state of Al-Jazira yesterday, and called on all parties to protect civilians.
Clementine said that reliable sources reported that the attack on the village of “Wad Al Noura” used explosive weapons in populated areas, and she called on all parties to the conflict to take all possible precautions to protect civilians.
Clementine added in her statement, “I am shocked by the reports of violent attacks and the high number of casualties in the village of Wad Al Noura in the state of Al Jazeera.”
She continued: “While the United Nations does not yet have the full details and facts of yesterday’s events, there are reliable reports of heavy gunfire and the use of explosive weapons in populated civilian areas.”
The UN official confirmed: “I said it before and I will say it again: Wars have rules that must be respected regardless of the circumstances.”
In a statement, published on social media late on Wednesday evening, a pro-democracy group known as the “Civil Resistance Committees” said: “The village of Wad Al Noura... Jazira State witnessed genocide today, Wednesday... after an attack... The Rapid Support militia attacked the village twice and killed up to a hundred martyrs.
