On Sunday, the Iranian Ministry of Interior announced the names of 6 candidates for the upcoming presidential elections, not including the name of former President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who had previously submitted his candidacy papers, according to what was reported by the semi-official Iranian Tasnim News Agency.
Tasnim News Agency quoted Mohsen Islami, spokesman for the Iranian Election Commission, as saying: “The eligibility of Mostafa Pourmohammadi, Saeed Jalili, Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf, Ali Reza Zakani, Amir Hossein Qazizadeh Hashemi, and Masoud Pezeshkian to run in the presidential elections has been confirmed.” Iran for the year 2024.
Hadi Tahan Nazif, spokesman for the Guardian Council in Iran, said in a tweet on the “X” platform, “The sessions were intense, and today the study of the qualifications of the candidates for the fourteenth round of the presidential elections has been completed, and we have also sent the names of the qualified candidates to The Ministry of Interior a few minutes ago, and the Ministry of Interior will announce these names in accordance with the law, and after announcing the names, the electoral campaigns for the candidates will begin.”
The date of June 28 has been set for the election of a new president for Iran following the death of the former president, Ibrahim Raisi, in a helicopter crash in which he was traveling with the late Foreign Minister and a number of officials in East Azerbaijan Province, northwest of the country.
