Protesters set fire to the headquarters of the Bangladesh Public Broadcasting Corporation, while "many people" are trapped inside the offices.
On Thursday, the station wrote in posts on its Facebook page saying, “A catastrophic fire at the Public Radio and Television Corporation is spreading quickly.”
She added, "We are seeking the cooperation of the fire service. There are many people stuck inside," noting that "hundreds of demonstrators set fire to the reception building."
Earlier today, the death toll from student protests in Bangladesh rose to 32 people on Thursday, according to a tally prepared by Agence France-Presse based on hospitals in various parts of the country.
Mahfuz Ara Begum, assistant director of a hospital, told AFP, “Four bodies were brought here, all of them wounded by rubber bullets.”
While other hospitals reported three deaths, in addition to nine deaths that were previously reported.
The nationwide protests are considered the largest since the re-election of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for a fourth term.
Student demonstrations against the quota system in government jobs turned into bloody protests fueled by high unemployment rates among youth.
About one-fifth of Bangladesh's 170 million people suffer from unemployment and are out of the education system.
