Republicans increased pressure on Democratic President Joe Biden after he announced he would step down from the presidential race.
Republican US House of Representatives Speaker Mike Johnson considered that Biden must resign “immediately.”
Johnson said in a statement, "If Joe Biden is not qualified to run for president, then he is not qualified to be president. He must resign immediately."
It seems that the Republicans will push in this direction, considering that stepping down is an admission of his ineligibility to remain in power until it is handed over next January.
Republican candidate Donald Trump went in the same direction, saying that his doctor (Biden) knew that he was unable to manage the affairs of office.
Biden announced today, Sunday, that he will step down from running in the presidential elections scheduled for next November.
He said in a statement published on the “X” platform: “I believe that it is in the interest of my party and my country for me to withdraw, and to focus solely on my duties as president until the end of my term.”
Biden's decision came after pressure from Democrats since late June, against the backdrop of a disastrous performance in a debate between him and his Republican opponent, Donald Trump.
Biden added that he will speak to the nation later this week about his decision.
The 81-year-old US President confirmed that he will focus on fulfilling his presidential duties until the end of his term.
