The United States on Wednesday used its veto power in the UN Security Council against a resolution calling for a humanitarian truce in the conflict between Israel and Hamas.
The draft resolution, submitted by Brazil, aimed to allow humanitarian aid to enter the Gaza Strip.
The vote was postponed twice over the past two days on the text of the draft resolution in light of the United States’ attempt to mediate the entry of aid into Gaza.
Twelve members voted in favor of the draft text today, while two members abstained from voting.
The countries that supported the resolution were the United Arab Emirates, Albania, Brazil, China, Ecuador, France, Gabon, Ghana, Japan, Malta, Mozambique and Switzerland, while Russia and the United Kingdom abstained from voting, and the United States used the right of veto
