The Deputy Governor of Aden and Secretary-General of the Local Council, Badr Maoun Saeed, held an important meeting today to discuss the necessary measures to protect the Al-Mallah Reserve in the capital, Aden, from environmental threats and random urban expansion.
The meeting was attended by a number of prominent officials, including the Director General of the Economic Corporation in Aden, Brigadier General Anwar Al-Omari, the Director of the Saline Sector, Nabil Mahyoub, the Deputy Director General of the Water Corporation for Sanitation Affairs, Engineer Zaki Haddad, and the Director of the Aden-Abyan Works Project, Engineer Mohsen Aliwa. The discussions centered on the environmental challenges facing the Mellah Reserve, especially the impact of urban expansion in the areas surrounding the reserve, and rainwater drainage, especially in the northern and western regions.
The meeting highlighted the vital importance of preserving Al-Mallah as one of the most important environmental and economic reserves in the city of Aden, which is considered an outlet for the sea and a natural lung for the port of Aden, in addition to its role as an important economic source to support the state treasury.
The meeting approved the formation of a special committee headed by the Director General of the Works Office in Aden, and the membership of the directors of the Economic Corporation, the Marines Sector, Water and Environment, and the (Aden-Abyan Works) project, with the aim of conducting a field trip to determine new paths for rainwater drainage, to ensure that it does not drain into the saltwater lakes, and to avoid... Any negative impacts on the environment and infrastructure.
It was also agreed to prepare a comprehensive report to be submitted to the Chairman and members of the Presidential Leadership Council, which includes recommendations and measures to reduce the risks of urban sprawl and protect the lands of the Mellah Reserve from encroachments, in a way that preserves its economic and environmental importance.
In the same context, the meeting obligated the Water Corporation to quickly implement the connection of the sewage network in the Caltex Tour to the transportation network to the treatment basins in Kabuta, to avoid any leakage of sewage into the sea, especially after addressing the problems related to this aspect.
The Deputy Governor of Aden concluded the meeting by emphasizing the support of the local authority, led by the Minister of State and Governor of Aden, Ahmed Hamid Lamlas, for all efforts aimed at protecting the Al-Mallah Reserve and enhancing production in this vital sector.
He stressed the need to find effective and sustainable solutions to the environmental problems facing the reserve, which would contribute to increasing its resources and its role in supporting the local and national economy.
