The Minister of Water and Environment, Engineer Tawfiq Al-Sharjabi, today inspected the project to establish a wastewater conveyor line extending from Abdul Qawi’s tour to the main sewage station in Mansoura, Aden Governorate. The project, funded by the World Bank at a cost of $2,015 million, is being implemented through the United Nations Office for Project Service (UNEPS).
During the visit, Minister Al-Sharjabi, accompanied by the Director General of the Local Water and Sanitation Corporation in Aden, Engineer Muhammad Bakhabira, was briefed on the level of achievement in the project, which is supervised by the Ministry of Water and Environment through the Water and Sanitation Project for Urban Cities.
The Minister of Water stressed the importance of this project in improving the environmental and health situation in the districts of Sheikh Othman and Mansoura. Al-Sharjabi indicated that the project aims to reduce the problems of sewage overflow resulting from urban expansion in the region, which has caused a significant increase in water and wastewater consumption, which exacerbates environmental and health problems.
The project includes constructing a new transmission line of GRP pipes with a diameter of 800 mm and a length of 2,150 meters, with a depth ranging between 3 to 6 metres, in addition to connecting the old network to the new, and building 37 main inspection chambers made of reinforced concrete.
