Today, Abyan Governorate witnessed escalating tensions between the Southern Giants forces, led by a member of the Presidential Command Council, Abdul Rahman Al-Muharami, and the anti-terrorism forces led by Brigadier General Abdul Rahman Al-Shanini.
According to local sources, these tensions come in the wake of Brigadier General Al-Shanini’s assault on a company commander belonging to the 11th Brigade of the Giants’ forces, which sparked strong reactions in military circles affiliated with the Giants.
Local sources indicate that a force of Giants is heading from Harib in Ma'rib and Shabwa Governorate towards Abyan, which may increase tensions in the governorate, if the situation is not quickly contained.
Until now, the situation remains ambiguous with regard to these tensions. The fate of the conflict between the two sides remains unclear, amid fears of the worsening security situation in Abyan and its impact on stability in the governorate, which is witnessing confrontations with Al-Qaeda elements.
