The Yemeni security authorities managed, yesterday, Sunday, to liberate dozens of kidnappers in the southern governorate of the country, seize the light gang members, and a number of senior smugglers.
The Yemeni Ministry of Interior said, in a statement, that the security services in Shabwa Governorate carried out a security campaign during which it succeeded in liberating more than 40 illegal immigrants, holding the Ethiopian citizenship, who were kidnapped south of the city of Ataq, the governorate center.
The official website of the Ministry quoted the leader of the security campaign, Captain Badr Mohamed El -Nassi, as saying that they had received information that there were dozens of Ethiopian kidnappers in a residential neighborhood south of the city of Ataq.
Al -Nassi pointed out that the kidnapping "came for the purpose of extortion, as the gang was torture of the kidnapped and communicated with their relatives to request the transfer of money."
He emphasized that the security campaign resulted in the liberation of 41 Ethiopians, the seizure of members of the gang that kidnapped them, as well as the arrest of 4 senior smugglers, who hold Ethiopian citizenship.
The Shabwa police previously managed to liberate 7 kidnapped Ethiopians, and 3 of their kidnappers in the same residential neighborhood south of the city of Ataq.
In September 2023, I was arrested by members of a gang with Ethiopian citizenship inside a residential apartment in the city of Ataq, who lure their immigrant citizens and torture them to blackmail their families.
Although the troubled conditions in Yemen continued, and its humanitarian crisis expanded due to the Houthi militia coup, hundreds of thousands of immigrants coming from the Horn of Africa continue their flow to the Yemeni coast, in illegal ways, in the hope of taking the country as a transit platform to neighboring countries. /P>
According to the "International Migration" organization in its report issued last month, more than 60 thousand and 800 African immigrants arrived in Yemeni territory, through the coast of Taiz in the waters of the Red Sea, and the coast of Shabwa overlooking the waters of the Gulf of Aden, during the past year. p>
