A girl committed suicide in Marib after being blackmailed

A Yemeni girl committed suicide, in the past few hours, in Ma’rib Governorate, northeastern Yemen, after being blackmailed by hackers who hacked her mobile phone.
Extortion cases have multiplied remarkably in a number of Yemeni regions, amid the absence of a deterrent role for the security services and the absence of punishment for blackmailers, whether female or male.
Local sources reported that two hackers hacked into the phone of the girl, who hails from Ma’rib Governorate, after sending a distorted link via a message on a social media application.
The two people were able to hack into the girl’s phone after she clicked on the suspicious link, and accessed her personal photos inside, and leaked them, according to the sources.
The sources reported that the two individuals belong to an extortion gang specialized in hacking smartphones and computers.
The two people asked the girl to send exorbitant financial transfers so that they would stop publishing her photos, amid a constant threat, which led her to commit suicide, without the sources mentioning the method they used.
Human rights activists demanded the issuance of an official law that protects victims from extortion elements, which have increased significantly in more than one region, with women often being the victims.
