The teachers’ strike continues in the capital, Aden, for the second week in a row, without any solutions being offered.
The strike came against the backdrop of teachers’ refusal to transfer their salaries to private banks, a decision taken recently by the Yemeni government.
This strike affected education, which was scheduled to begin in the first week of September, as schools closed their doors to students.
Educational sources in Aden said that teachers refuse to transfer their salaries to private banks, due to the high potential for embezzlement and corruption.
The sources added that teachers are demanding that their salaries be paid through the financial departments, as was done in the past.
In a related context, the Southern Teachers Union in Aden announced the organization of a protest in front of the Ministry of Finance building next Monday, to demand a solution to the salary transfer problem.
The concerned authorities hope that this problem will be resolved as soon as possible, so that education in Aden, which is already suffering from many problems, will not be affected.
