Journalist Majid Al-Shuaibi explained that he was arrested at one of the security belt points in the capital, Aden, and taken to the Mansoura belt operations, and was interrogated based on a video he posted on his Facebook page.
Al-Shuaibi indicated that his illegal arrest, and his detention for 5 hours for investigation, is shameful and does not relate to official work according to correct principles, and without clarifying it as an official report to the Journalists Syndicate.
Al-Shuaibi’s clarification stated:-
I received a lot of calls today about the incident of my arrest at one of the points in the Aden belt, and for the sake of importance I would like to explain exactly what happened without adding or subtracting. It is true that I feel as if what happened today was a betrayal of me, and I have once again become one of the victims of the harsh conditions that this country suffers from. The bereaved country faces the challenges it is experiencing, so it is important for me to clarify what happened so that the hardworking people do not narrate too much news and stories that may often be unrelated to what happened.
At exactly eleven o'clock this morning, Monday, September 18, 2023, I was arrested based on a security report issued by Security Belt Operations, and I was taken to the third security zone, where I was investigated there in a normal and flexible manner regarding my publishing a video clip containing a complaint against a water seller.< /p>
They asked me about the motives for publishing, and I told them that I did not do anything wrong, and what I published was due to humanitarian motives that I hoped the Belt Command would pick up and address, and not for other goals.
The point command and the operations command there dealt with me with all kindness and respect, and while sitting there with them for several hours, I told them with pure intention that the case of my detention for investigation was illegal and that it was not counted in the credit of the security authorities in Aden.
Especially since I know the leadership of the belt, represented by Commander Jalal Al-Rubaie, and I have had a close relationship with him personally for many years, and the issue of the video of the girl selling water could have been resolved in another atmosphere and in a smooth manner, away from arrest and detention.
Because I care about the image of security and the belt together, I did not prefer to publish any news about the incident. However, in all the world, the detention or arrest of a journalist due to publishing media material or an opinion is considered harmful material for public opinion.
I greatly appreciate the efforts made by the Security Belt Command, as well as the Security Administration, but ordering a journalist to summon or arrest him without a judicial warrant is a crime that cannot be tolerated, a blatant legal error, and a procedure that violates the provisions of the applicable law. I hope that they will review many of the matters that It concerns this aspect, and I am fully confident that the Belt Command and the Security Administration Command will correct this, so that it does not happen again in the future.
I left Belt Operations in the city of Mansoura after I was interrogated according to an official report, which I signed and kept silent. I only hope that whoever issued the arrest report and the detention order will see it, which was registered under the title “Wanted for the Commander.”
Therefore, I thank everyone who stood in solidarity with me and everyone who asked about me and expressed their sadness and regret at what the situation of journalists and media professionals has reached in our country.
Therefore, this was considered an official notification to the Journalists Syndicate.
Thank you
