The delay in disbursing the salaries of Lahj teachers for two consecutive months raised fears of an education strike in the governorate, despite the fact that Lahj teachers did not respond to the strike calls called by the teachers’ union, so they continued to carry out the educational mission for the students.
Educational sources in the governorate said that the delay in disbursing the salaries of Lahj teachers, like the teachers in Aden who received their salaries and refused to discontinue the strike, will allow the corruption lobby to incite and exploit the delay in salaries of Lahj teachers for the months of August and September.
The sources added that a number of Lahj teachers met yesterday with the governor of the governorate, Major General Ahmed al-Turki. He refused to respond to the teachers’ appeal to pay salaries on the pretext that the governorate has no revenues, in a clear indication of his abandonment of finding solutions for teachers, which will push Lahj schools to go on strike.
The sources called on the responsible authorities to pay the salaries of Lahj teachers as soon as possible, to avoid an education strike in the governorate.
The sources reported that Aden’s teachers received their salaries for the month of August, through Al-Qutaybi Bank, but they did not give up on the strike and continued to be stubborn, strike, and raise the level of demands to the disbursement of incentives and other demands, which will deprive thousands of students of education.
It is worth noting that some teachers left education and went to private work, and replaced them with high school and institute graduates as their substitutes and to cover their place and deduct part of their salary for these substitutes, which affected the progress of education and opened the door to corruption and failure to bear full responsibility. The government directed the transfer Disbursing salaries from financial departments to banks for the purpose of combating corruption.
