The Minister of State and Governor of the capital, Aden, Ahmed Hamid Lamlas, discussed today, Wednesday, with Mr. Nuno Oliveira, Director of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization “UNESCO” project in Yemen, a mechanism for rehabilitating (100) historical houses in all the districts, in addition to a cinema building. In the meeting, which was attended by a number of deputies, the governor’s advisor for district affairs, and the Director General of Mansoura, Governor Lamlas stressed the importance and status of the historical buildings and landmarks that abound in the capital, Aden, and the necessity of preserving them with their distinct architectural style of unique solar stone.
Governor Lamlas praised the efforts and role of UNESCO in preserving human heritage, stressing, in this context, the keenness of the local authority to overcome difficulties and facilitate the work of international organizations in the capital, Aden, at the forefront of which is UNESCO. Governor Lamlas pointed out that the local authority, as keen as it is on the work presented, is keen to describe the projects as they truly are, whether it is painting, rehabilitation, emergency intervention, or strategic, noting that transparency in this aspect serves the authority and the supporting party. In turn, Mr. Nuno Oliveira expressed his thanks and appreciation to the Governor of the capital, Aden, for his response and providing this opportunity and meeting to discuss ways to enhance cooperation, coordination and organization for the success of the organization’s work in a way that ensures the service of the city of Aden, the historical buildings, and the human being above all else.
Mr. Oliveira pointed out that the organization's previous intervention, which targeted only the exterior facades of buildings, was not satisfactory, and therefore the organization will be keen to implement a strategic intervention that includes the exterior and interior facades of buildings. At the conclusion of the meeting, Oliveira indicated that the organization will work to rehabilitate (100) homes as a first stage, and will continue working and coordinating to complete many related projects in the future.
