Mayon Organization for Human Rights revealed, in its report on the occasion of the International Day Against the Use of Children as Soldiers in Armed Conflict, that 7,020 child soldiers have been killed in Yemen since 2014.
The organization explained that the Houthi group is responsible for recruiting 7,000 children, while the forces of the internationally recognized government are responsible for recruiting 20 children.
The organization called on all parties in Yemen to immediately stop recruiting children, demobilize underage recruits, implement UN action plans, and not use them as a cosmetic façade to carry out further violations against children.
The organization confirmed that the recruitment and use of children in armed conflicts is a grave violation of their rights, and causes them serious physical and psychological harm.
The organization called on the international community to intervene to stop these brutal practices, and to take practical steps to protect children from the dangers of war.
The organization’s statistics indicate that the number of child soldiers in Yemen has increased significantly in recent years, with the number of children recruited in 2023 reaching more than 2,000 children.
Human rights organizations in Yemen suffer from great difficulties in reaching areas where children are recruited, which makes it difficult to estimate the actual number of children recruited.
International organizations call on the international community to put pressure on all parties in Yemen to stop recruiting children and ensure their protection from the dangers of war.
