“Bank of Aden” announces a food basket in installments...a shock that reflects the deterioration of living conditions

The announcement by a bank in the capital that it would provide a food basket in installments over 7 months for state employees who receive their salaries through it, caused a great shock among citizens, in light of the deteriorating living conditions and the unprecedented rise in food prices.
The deteriorating economic conditions led to the inability of the employee’s salary to provide even half of the needs of the average family in Aden.
This announcement represents an official acknowledgment of the extent of the poor living conditions that citizens have reached.
Activists on social media compared the situation of the Yemeni citizen to that of citizens of neighboring countries, who receive installment offers from banks to buy a villa, a modern car, an installment for legitimate work, or even for marriage.
On the other hand, the situation of Aden and southern citizens reached the point of receiving installment offers to purchase their basic needs for living.
This announcement reflects the significant deterioration of living conditions and the collapse of citizens’ purchasing power.
This announcement is a dangerous indicator of the worsening economic crisis in the south and Yemen in general.
Many citizens called on the Yemeni government and the Central Bank to work to address the economic crisis and improve the living conditions of citizens.
They stressed the need to put an end to the high prices of basic foodstuffs and ensure their availability at reasonable prices.
