The US Embassy in Yemen said, “The Houthi militias have turned Yemen into the largest minefield ever in the world by planting about two million mines.”

The American embassy added in a statement on the occasion of World Mine Awareness Day, "It will take eight years to completely remove the mines planted by the Houthi militias on Yemeni territory."

The statement stressed the need for the Houthis to stop using lands as a weapon of war and start working for a peaceful future for all Yemenis.

Noting the United States’ support for efforts to remove mines in Yemen, he pointed out that “every step towards removing mines is a step towards peace.”
