Journalist and economic expert Majed Al-Daari revealed that the Houthi militia illegally minted a new currency of one thousand stone riyals in the basement of the Al-Sabeen Central Branch.
This comes days after the militia announced the minting of a 100 riyal coin, after a difficult coup.
Al-Daari confirmed that he was the first journalist to write and reveal the Houthis’ tendency to print and issue cash, for the first time since their forceful coup against the government in 2014.
This action by the Houthis is a dangerous step aimed at destabilizing the Yemeni economy and exacerbating the financial crisis.
This step raises great concerns about the possibility of the collapse of the Yemeni national currency and its effects on the lives of citizens.
