United Nations: 11% of the displaced in Yemen can buy food

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees said that only 11% of the displaced in Yemen can buy food on a daily basis, in light of severe economic and social challenges facing displaced families in the country.
The ongoing war in the country since late 2014, following the Houthi coup against the legitimate authority, caused the displacement of about 4.5 million people inside the country, the majority of them in Ma’rib Governorate, which hosts more than 200 displacement camps.
The Commissioner stated in a blog post on the X platform that displaced families in Yemen face severe social and economic challenges, and that 46.4% of them reduce vital expenses in order to survive.
She added that about 40% of the displaced earn less than $50 a month, while 69.6% depend on debt.
The United Nations stressed the need for donors to support the humanitarian response plan in the country so that international and relief organizations continue to provide assistance to the displaced.
