Flood waters drown the city of Mukalla in Hadramaut

Today, Wednesday, torrential torrential waters resulting from the "Al-Matir" depression, flooded a number of districts in the Yemeni Hadhramaut Governorate, causing main lines and secondary streets to be flooded.
The city of Mukalla, the capital of the governorate, witnessed, during the past few hours, heavy rainfall accompanied by severe thunderstorms and strong winds, which led to a significant rise in water levels throughout the city.
The pictures and video clips coming from there, and circulating on social media platforms in Yemen, showed the size of the torrents that flooded the streets and swept away a number of citizens’ cars, in addition to causing almost complete paralysis of traffic.
A circulating video clip documented the recovery of a young man by a group of citizens who drowned as a result of falling into the torrent.
Another clip also documented a thunderbolt striking one of the mountains in the city of Mukalla, as well as the flow of water collected on top of one of the other mountains, and raining down on the city.
The effects of the "rain depression" reached parts of the districts of Wadi Hadhramaut in the early hours of Wednesday morning, especially the historic city of Tarim, northeast of the governorate, which was flooded with torrential waters resulting from heavy rainfall.
The concerned authorities have not yet issued any official comment regarding the potential material and human damages and losses.
The meteorological and early warning centers in Yemen warned, in reports issued yesterday, Tuesday, of the approaching path of the depression and its direction towards the eastern governorates of the country, especially the governorates of Hadramaut and Al-Mahra.
