The Al-Shehr District, in Hadhramaut, witnessed the destruction of large quantities of Qat after it was seized at sea, prepared for smuggling to Socotra Governorate, under the supervision of the Environmental Sanitation Department of the Public Works Office.
Mabkhout bin Madi, the governor of Hadhramaut, directed the destruction operation to be carried out under the supervision of the commissioner of the Shihrn District, Adel Ahmed Baakaba, in compliance with the decision of the governor of Socotra, prohibiting the sale or circulation of qat in the archipelago.
The quantity of qat seized is estimated at about 30 cartons, with a total weight of 1,500 kilograms, as a Dafiqa point at the western entrance to Al-Shehr District thwarted an attempt to smuggle it.
