The security services in Aden began implementing strict measures that included, in addition to prohibiting the carrying of unlicensed weapons, a ban on the movement of motorcycles of all types.
The new measures aim to control the security situation, which has witnessed a degree of fragility, reduce crime, restrict the activity of terrorist organizations, and prevent them from carrying out assassinations and bombings.
However, the aspect related to the ban on motorcycles did not pass without causing a state of anger and restlessness among the city’s residents, many of whom depend for their transportation on the means of transportation known for its lightness, low fuel consumption, and low cost of repair compared to cars and other vehicles.
Motorcycles, including tricycles, contribute to securing the livelihood of large numbers of people in Aden, especially small merchants who use them to transport their goods to various corners of the city, including narrow and unprepared roads.
Journalist Abdul Rahman Anis criticized the motorcycle part of the new security decision.
He said in a post on the X platform:
By God, I still do not understand that a decision was taken to cut off the livelihood of motorcycle drivers in Aden without providing any solutions for them..
This means that the authorities' mission is only to make people's lives difficult. They have nothing to do with solutions, nor is this their job..
No one tells me the reason for fighting crime, even if someone is naturally retarded would not carry out an assassination with a slow bicycle that walks with three wheels and an extra chair.
The social conditions in Aden were affected by the difficult economic situation in Yemen, the decline in the value of the local currency and the rise in prices, including the price of fuel that is often not available in the necessary quantities, which makes resorting to motorcycles a suitable solution for many residents.
The committee warned all citizens and soldiers against using motorcycles, carrying unlicensed weapons, walking around in non-military military uniforms, or firing gunshots at public events and weddings, and said that the security services will take legal measures against anyone who violates this.
She confirmed in a statement that the goal of preventing the spread of motorcycles once and for all comes within the efforts of the security services to maintain public tranquility and prevent and prevent crime.
She explained that the campaign is not only to prevent the movement of motorcycles, but it also aims to prevent the movement of unnumbered vehicles and military crews except with prior operational notification from its unit to joint operations.
It called on all citizens and the media to cooperate with the security campaign and contribute to its success in order to establish security and stability throughout the districts of Aden.
