Journalist Saleh Al-Hanashi commented on the news of replacing 198 damaged solar panels at the solar power station in Aden due to trace lead, noting that the problem has been going on for more than a year without any actual action from the official authorities.
Al-Hanashi explained, in a post on his Facebook page, that the solar panels at the station had been exposed to traceable lead since the start of its operation, yet no official or security agency took serious steps to address the problem.
He added that after nearly two months of worsening damage, those supervising the station's operation had no alternative but to resort to the media to draw attention to the seriousness of the situation.
Al-Hanashi confirmed that this method is not new, as officials in various state institutions do not take action until the issue is raised in the media. Despite the important role of the media in shedding light on such issues, government institutions still view the media as an enemy and a lurker.
Al-Hanashi continued, saying that solving the problem of protecting the solar power station from traceable lead is not difficult, but none of the officials seem interested in solving public problems, as they are preoccupied with their personal affairs and private interests.
He also pointed out that the media reveals only a small part of the extent of corruption and negligence, preferring not to delve deeply into some issues in order to preserve the feelings of people who may not bear to know everything that is happening.
At the conclusion of his post, Al-Hanashi warned against reducing the role of the media or attempts to restrict it, recalling the importance of having a free and active media concerned with raising issues that concern citizens.
