The Fishermen's Association in Al-Hudaydah announced the loss of more than twenty fishermen from Al-Khawkhah District. While sailing in Yemeni waters in the Red Sea.
The representative of the fishermen’s associations in Al-Khokha, Fouad Dobla, said that 21 fishermen were reported missing, who went on a regular fishing trip with their boats. Some of them had been absent for a month or more, without their families knowing their whereabouts, and they were unable to contact them.
For their part, the five fishermen released by the Eritrean authorities yesterday confirmed that they are the last of the Khawkha people remaining in the Eritrean prison.
The families of the fishermen call on government agencies to investigate and follow up to uncover the fate of their children.
Fishermen are suffering from great risks, as a result of the Houthis’ continued military actions in the Red Sea, the militarization of Yemeni and international waters, and the presence of the so-called International Prosperity Alliance forces in the region.
A few days ago, the local authorities in Hodeidah announced the return of 72 Yemeni fishermen after weeks of detention by the Eritrean authorities.
The Hodeidah Governorate Information Office, affiliated with the legitimate government, said that the fishermen who returned to Al-Khawkhah District - south of Hodeidah Governorate - west of the country, were arrested by the Eritrean Navy, while fishing in Yemeni waters.
