Arab consensus in the corridors of the United Nations to condemn the killing of civilians and demand the entry of humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip.
In a joint press conference, the foreign ministers of Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Jordan and Palestine called on the international community to intervene to bring about a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.
Ayman Al-Safadi, Jordanian Foreign Minister, said: “We all condemn the killing of civilians, regardless of their nationality, and the international community must uphold international law and prove that no one is above the law.”
He added that "war will not resolve the conflict, and the conflict in Palestine did not begin this month," warning that "if the war continues, it will only bring more destruction."
He continued, saying, “Today we held a meeting, which will result in urgent action to confront the threats in the region,” adding that “the life of a Palestinian civilian is no less valuable than its Israeli counterpart.”
Safadi praised what was stated in the speech of Antonio Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations, during the UN Security Council session on developments in Gaza, earlier today,
He said, “The Secretary-General spoke in a manner that reflects the United Nations Charter regarding the occupation and the injustice to which the Palestinian people are exposed.”
He stressed that the threat of expanding conflict in the region is real and realistic.
For his part, Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyad al-Maliki considered the marginalization of the Palestinian people who are killed daily unacceptable.
He added: “The life of the Palestinian person is as important as anyone else in this universe.”
As for Prince Faisal bin Farhan, the Saudi Foreign Minister, he stressed that more violence is not a solution, and said, “We demand an immediate ceasefire and the lifting of the siege on the Gaza Strip.”
For his part, Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry said that his country demands an immediate and sustainable ceasefire so that the region is spared the expansion of the conflict.
Shoukry stressed that Egypt rejects the liquidation of the Palestinian cause at the expense of neighboring countries, stressing the necessity of bringing aid into the Gaza Strip to help civilians.
Shukry called for a complete cessation of what violates international humanitarian law and human rights, and the necessity of avoiding double standards.
He stressed that the Palestinian people are committed to their rights and land and will not abandon them.
He said, “Self-defense must not deviate from the framework of legitimacy into collective punishment and causing this huge amount of suffering.”
