The Houthi group confirmed, on Tuesday, its readiness to sign the UN road map to end the conflict in Yemen, claiming that Saudi Arabia withdrew from signing in response to American pressure. This came during a meeting between the so-called Houthi Foreign Minister, Jamal Amer, with the chief advisor to the office of the UN envoy to Yemen, Fatima Al-Zahraa Lenqi, and the director of the envoy’s office in Sana’a, Muhammad Al-Ghannam.
According to what was reported by the group’s “Saba” agency, Amer stated that the obstacle to moving forward towards peace is the position of Saudi Arabia, which abandoned signing the road map after American interventions, noting that Washington linked the implementation of the map to the disbursement of salaries and the cessation of Houthi military operations at sea. Red.
The Houthi official added that his group refused to link the naval attacks to the road map, considering that its operations in the Red Sea came in support of Palestine and the people of Gaza, denying any relationship between the two issues. Amer also called on the UN envoy to announce his explicit commitment to implementing the road map, pointing out that the Houthis are ready to sign immediately if Saudi Arabia shows “seriousness” in this path.
For her part, the senior advisor to the Office of the UN Envoy confirmed that the United Nations is continuing its efforts to achieve comprehensive peace in Yemen, stressing the importance of Yemeni leadership in the political process. It is noteworthy that Saudi Arabia had previously announced, through its Foreign Minister, Prince Faisal bin Farhan, its readiness to sign the road map, which raises questions about the parties concerned with pushing the wheel of peace forward.
