Southern youth reject the General National Youth Congress and demand radical reforms

A wide group of southern youth components and civil organizations refused to participate in the Second General National Youth Conference, according to a statement issued by the expanded youth consultative meeting held in Aden this morning, Tuesday, December 10, 2024 AD.
These components and organizations expressed their concerns about the second conference not achieving its goals, as happened in its previous version, and demanded radical reforms to ensure its success in the future.
In an unprecedented step, the final statement of the expanded youth consultative meeting in Aden announced its refusal to participate in the second General National Youth Conference.
The participants in the meeting attributed this rejection to the previous experience of the conference, which did not achieve the desired goals and did not meet the aspirations of young people.
In their statement, the participants called for radical reforms in the conference’s work mechanisms, including restructuring the General Secretariat and the Advisory and Organizational Committee in a way that ensures fair representation of all youth components and civil society organizations from various governorates.
The statement also called for redefining the goals and agenda of the conference to suit the current challenges and aspirations of young people.
The statement issued by the meeting stressed the importance of the role of youth in building the future and strengthening national partnership, and called on all concerned parties to adhere to the demands that were put forward to ensure the success of the conference and achieve its goals.
The statement was delivered by Engineer Abdullah Al-Bari on behalf of the participants in the expanded youth consultative meeting that brought together influential youth, components and civil society organizations in the capital, Aden.
Al-Berry indicated that the statement was unanimously approved by a vote by raising the hand inside the meeting hall, and a copy of the statement will be delivered to the office of the UN envoy to Yemen, the US Embassy in Yemen, the American Democratic Institute, and the US Agency for International Development, and will also be distributed to all local, Arab and international media.< /p>
