Preparatory year students at the University of Aden expressed their dissatisfaction with the university’s policy regarding the number of admissions in the first year of study. They expressed their surprise at not being properly informed of the number of those accepted.
According to the students, 900 students were accepted into the preparatory year, but they did not receive correct information regarding the number of admissions in the first year, as information was promoted stating that 200 students would be accepted, while it later turned out that the actual number was only 120.
Students believe that this change in the number of accepted people negatively affects their chances of continuing their studies at the University of Aden, as they compete for a limited number of seats, while many of them are excluded.
Therefore, the students call on the university administration and the competent authorities to increase the number of students accepted in the first year to at least 200 students, stressing that this change is necessary to provide a fair opportunity for all preparatory year students and achieve equal opportunities among them.
At the conclusion of their statement, the students expressed their confidence in the wisdom and ability of the university administration to make appropriate decisions for the benefit of the students, expressing their hope that their request will be met and fair educational opportunities will be achieved for all.
The preparatory year is shrouded in ambiguity, especially since the Ministry of Higher Education directed that it be canceled and the University of Aden rejected it. Sources say that the University of Aden benefits from the revenues of the preparatory year and it continued for this purpose and did not add any benefit to the students applying for university study. However, the students waste an entire year of their time. To study it to no avail.
