Scandal: Documents reveal the cooperation of government agencies with the Houthis to extend a submarine cable in the Red Sea

Documents revealed that the Houthi group, with the help of foreign parties, obtained permits to implement a dangerous marine project in the Red Sea through government ministries in the temporary capital, Aden. The documents indicate that a foreign company called "Gulf Agency Company", based in the Al-Mualla District in Aden, contacted the Ministries of Transport and Communications to obtain permits to extend a submarine cable for the Houthi-affiliated TeleYemen Company in Sana'a.
According to journalist Fathi Bin Lazraq on his Facebook page, the project aims to enhance the Houthis’ capabilities in the field of high-speed communications, which may be used for military purposes, which poses a threat to Yemeni and regional national security, especially to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The information indicated that all executive work will be carried out under the direct supervision of the Houthis, starting from Sanaa to Hodeidah, while permits will be officially issued by the legitimate government in Aden.
These documents raised questions about how the Houthis obtained these permits without the knowledge of the state’s senior leadership, represented by the Presidential Command Council and the Council of Ministers, as they were not informed of the nature of the project until after some documents were leaked.
For his part, an official source at the General Authority for Maritime Affairs in Aden denied the validity of these reports, stressing that the authority had not issued any permits to extend a submarine cable to areas under the control of the Houthis. The source explained that the government memos circulated on social media are merely memos introducing the application and not work permits, noting that the directives of the Minister of Transport stipulated that no permits should be issued to companies operating in Houthi-controlled areas.
The source called on the media to ensure accuracy and communicate with the Authority to ensure the accuracy of the information before publishing it, stressing that the Authority is the only authority authorized to issue marine permits under the law.
This revelation comes at a time when the region is witnessing an escalation in regional tensions, especially with the increasing hostile activities of the Houthis in the Red Sea, which requires an urgent investigation to reveal the full details of this scandal and the parties involved in it.
