This came during the speech of the Prime Minister, in a virtual meeting held today, Wednesday, with the United Nations team regarding the economic and social development plan for Taiz Governorate 2024-2026 AD, to determine the plan’s path, what it accomplished in its first year, the priorities of the current year, and preparation for the donor conference to mobilize funds. for the plan, in addition to the role of the private sector in it.
Dr. Ahmed Awad bin Mubarak considered the selection of Taiz Governorate by the United Nations as a model for implementing the project to shift from emergency interventions to sustainable interventions as a qualitative step that reflects the strategic importance of this governorate, not only as a symbol of steadfastness and challenge, but as a model that can be built upon in the rest of the governorates. Pointing out that the transition from emergency interventions to sustainable development interventions achieves a long-term impact and consolidates stability and development, an approach that the government called for from an early time.
He pointed out the importance of the role of international partners and the private sector in achieving the goals of the economic and social development plan for Taiz Governorate, expressing his aspiration to work together to support and implement this plan and spread the experience to the governorates of Aden, Hadhramaut and Ma’rib.
He also expressed his aspiration for an active and positive role for the private sector and for Taiz to be an experience for a true partnership to bring about development in Taiz Governorate and the rest of the governorates, noting the meeting that took place between the local authority and the private sector and in the presence of the resident representative of the United Nations Development Program and representatives of civil society organizations.
The Prime Minister urged the establishment of a local economic council, stressing the importance of strengthening coordination between the central government, the local authority, and international partners to ensure that efforts are directed in an integrated and effective manner, and for Taiz to be a model. He congratulated the arrangements for holding the upcoming donor conference and mobilizing the necessary funds to implement 2025 projects, and that these The step will receive full support from the government, which will also work to provide the necessary funding and contribute according to the capabilities available in such circumstances.
He directed the relevant ministries to grant the local authority the necessary powers, selecting it from the United Nations as a model for implementing the transition project, and urged the governor of Taiz to prepare a matrix of the most important powers required urgently.
The Prime Minister pointed out that the success of this plan requires everyone to work in the spirit of one team, putting the interest of the citizen first, offering thanks to all participants and looking forward to constructive discussions that contribute to achieving the aspirations of the people of Taiz Governorate, and in establishing a development model to be emulated in the rest of the country.
