The Southern Transitional Council approved, during an emergency meeting held today in the capital, Aden, the formation of an emergency committee to follow up the deterioration of the living and service conditions, and to provide daily reports for public opinion, in a move aimed at enhancing transparency and restoring the confidence of citizens amid a worsening crisis that afflicts the capital and the rest of the southern governorates.
The meeting was chaired by Professor Ali Abdullah Al -Kathiri, Acting Chairman of the Council, President of the National Assembly, in the presence of a member of the Presidency Authority, a transitional executive head of the capital, Moamen Al -Saqqaf, the Governor of Aden Ahmed Lams, and members of the ministerial bloc of the council headed by Dr. Abdel Nasser Al -Wali, along with a number of deputy ministers.
During the meeting, the dangerous collapse in basic services, especially electricity, currency deterioration, salary delay, and deteriorating environmental and health conditions, were discussed, in light of a clear government inability to provide any concrete treatments.
The meeting emphasized that the council, as a popular leadership, cannot remain in the spectator’s position regarding the daily suffering that the citizen faces, stressing that the moment requires firm positions, and active moves away from political accounts.
In this context, the formation of an emergency committee was approved in a permanent convening, and it includes representatives of the council, the government and the local authority, to follow up on developments in the field, and to provide daily reports of public opinion to enhance transparency and reassure citizens.
The meeting also approved an official message to the Security Council, the UN envoy and the countries sponsoring the political process, led by Saudi Arabia, the UAE, the United States and Britain, to demand an urgent international action to address the roots of the humanitarian and service crisis.
The meeting raised a recommendation to the President of the Council to cancel any unnecessary political or festive activities, and to direct its financial revenues to support the humanitarian aspects, in a way that contributes to alleviating the suffering of citizens at this critical stage.
The meeting emphasized that these emergency measures do not contradict the strategic path of the council, but rather a base to launch towards broader reforms that meet the aspirations of the people of the south.
