Maersk will shift its ships away from the Red Sea “in the near future”

The Danish company Maersk announced that all of the company's ships that were scheduled to cross the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden will turn south to pass through the Cape of Good Hope route, in the near future.
The company said in a statement today, Friday, “The situation is constantly evolving and is still very fragile, and all available information confirms that the security risks are still very high.”
She added, “Therefore, we have decided to divert all Maersk ships that were to cross the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden towards the south around the Cape of Good Hope in the near future.”
Maersk said, “We hope to reach a sustainable solution in the near future and are doing everything we can to contribute to achieving it, but we urge customers to prepare for continued complications in the region and major disruption to the global shipping network.”
Last Tuesday, Maersk announced that it would temporarily stop all ships heading to the Red Sea and then the shortcut through the Suez Canal between Europe and Asia, following an attack on one of its ships launched by the Houthis in Yemen, and began diverting the ships’ route to circling Africa.
On December 19, the United States launched a multinational operation aimed at protecting trade in the Red Sea, but many shipping companies are still diverting their ships to Africa due to the continuing attacks.
Approximately one-third of the world's container ship shipments pass through the Suez Canal, and rerouting ships to Africa may cost up to $1 million in additional fuel for a single round-trip between Asia and northern Europe.
And “in solidarity with the Gaza Strip,” which has been suffering from an Israeli war with American support since October 7, 2023; The Houthis targeted, with missiles and drones, cargo ships in the Red Sea that are owned or operated by Israeli companies or that transport goods to or from Israel
