Amid increasing tension in the Red Sea as a result of Houthi attacks on commercial shipping ships, and US strikes targeting the group's sites in Yemen, the British Maritime Trade Operations Authority announced that it had received reports of the activity of a drone system at a distance of 46 nautical miles south of Mokha in Yemen.
She also explained in a tweet on her account on the X platform, today, Tuesday, that the authorities are investigating the matter, and advised ships to be careful and report any suspicious activity.
This came a few hours after the official military spokesman for the Houthis, Yahya Saree, announced that American and British aircraft launched 18 air strikes on Sanaa, Taiz, and Al-Bayda during the past hours, vowing to respond. He said on the “X” platform that these American-British attacks will not go without response and punishment.
8 strokes
It also came after American and British forces carried out eight strikes yesterday evening, Monday, with support from Australia, Bahrain, Canada and the Netherlands, in the latest attack on the positions of the Houthis who attack commercial ships in the Red Sea.
According to the Pentagon, these strikes targeted 8 centers and warehouses belonging to the Houthis, including an underground storage site, in addition to advanced systems, missile and surveillance capabilities used by the group allied with Iran against shipping in the Red Sea.
These sites were also bombed with approximately 25 to 30 munitions, launched by warplanes launched from the US aircraft carrier “Eisenhower” and British ships as well, according to what a senior American official in the Pentagon revealed, who spoke on condition of anonymity.
Navigation threat
This month, the United States and Britain also carried out repeated strikes on Houthi sites with the aim of disrupting and weakening the group's ability to threaten navigation in the Red Sea and undermine global trade.
Since last November 19, the Houthi group has attacked 33 ships with various types of ballistic missiles and drones, in response to the Israeli war in the Gaza Strip, according to its claim.
The American forces themselves also faced direct attacks many times, some of which hit their ships, according to what the Pentagon confirmed.
These Houthi attacks disrupted global shipping traffic, and raised fears of global inflation.
It also exacerbated fears that the repercussions of the war between Israel and Hamas in Gaza, which has been ongoing for 4 months, would destabilize the Middle East and expand the conflict.
