On Monday, the leader of the Houthi group, Abdul-Malik al-Houthi, called on Saudi Arabia and the UAE to meet his conditions to achieve peace with the armed group.
In a recorded speech broadcast on Al-Masirah TV, Abdul-Malik Al-Houthi accused Saudi Arabia and the UAE of “clearly procrastinating regarding peace entitlements in light of the current stage.”
The leader of the armed group called on Saudi Arabia and the UAE to move “from the phase of de-escalation to peace benefits.”
The group’s leader goes on to clarify these entitlements by saying, “A clear agreement on what we have emphasized in the discussions and negotiations throughout all the past stages.”
He added that peace benefits include what he described as “ending the siege, aggression and occupation.”
He also stressed “damage compensation”! This could be a decline in the group’s position from reconstruction to compensation for the damage caused to the group.
This comes in conjunction with the increase in diplomatic movements last week, to save the road map that the UN envoy to Yemen seeks to achieve in the country.
In December, Grundberg presented a road map that he said came after extensive consultations in Iran, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, the Sultanate of Oman and other countries and “will include, among other elements, the parties’ commitment to implementing a nationwide ceasefire, and paying all salaries.” public sector, resuming oil exports, opening roads in Taiz and other parts of Yemen, and continuing to ease restrictions on Sanaa Airport and Hodeidah Port. The roadmap will also establish implementation mechanisms and prepare for a Yemeni-led political process under the auspices of the United Nations.”
Grundberg previously indicated that the escalation in the Red Sea is slowing down peace efforts in Yemen. In February, he visited the governorates under the control of the internationally recognized government in February.
