Amid international warnings of the seriousness of the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip, which has been besieged by the Israeli military operation that has been ongoing for more than a year, an American threat came.
30 days
US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken and Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin sent a letter yesterday, Monday, to Israel demanding that it take steps within 30 days to improve the humanitarian situation in Gaza.
The two officials added that the letter came to avoid the consequences that might result from American military aid to Israel under American law, according to the Axios website.
The two also called on Israel to take urgent steps to improve the humanitarian situation in Gaza as soon as possible.
The letter said: “We are writing now to underscore the US government’s deep concern about the deteriorating humanitarian situation in Gaza, and we seek urgent and sustained action by your government this month to change this course.”
While the US Department of Defense has not yet responded to a request for comment.
This message came as UNICEF spokesman James Elder warned that the situation was deteriorating day by day for children in Gaza.
He added that in August, the smallest amount of aid arrived in the Gaza Strip compared to any entire month since the outbreak of the war, pointing out that during several days last week no commercial trucks were allowed to enter.
He continued that today there are probably the worst restrictions on humanitarian aid ever.
Elder also spoke about the lack of real movement to open new roads and crossing points, adding that since May the sector has witnessed the constant closure of entry points.
Severe famine
This comes as large parts of Gaza have been destroyed as a result of the Israeli military operation in the Strip since October 2023, which sparked the war.
While Israel intensifies its operations in the northern Palestinian Strip, where the United Nations has warned that hundreds of thousands of people are trapped.
In addition, the Gaza Strip is suffering from severe famine resulting from Israeli air strikes that destroyed food infrastructure, such as bakeries and flour mills, in addition to a widespread scarcity of basic materials.
