A new Saudi call to implement the two-state solution and stop the war in Gaza, in a compass that brings together the hopes of countries and organizations looking forward to a timetable for a Palestinian state.
Today, Wednesday, a high-level meeting of the global coalition to implement the two-state solution began in the Saudi capital, Riyadh, which includes diplomats and envoys from several countries and regional and international organizations.
The sessions, which continue until tomorrow, Thursday, aim to provide a specific timetable for building and implementing the Palestinian state and the two-state solution, and to provide practical steps to support international efforts and peace endeavors.
Prince Faisal bin Farhan, Saudi Foreign Minister, said today, in televised statements on the sidelines of the meeting, that “the two-state solution is a step to end the Palestine crisis.”
The Saudi Foreign Minister stressed that the situation in Gaza is tragic and disastrous due to the Israeli siege, stressing that being satisfied with condemnations is no longer useful in the face of the suffering of the Palestinian people.
He expressed Saudi Arabia’s support for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) and the Palestinian Authority.
He said, “The spread of hate speech undermines the two-state solution and prompts more violence... We must save the two-state solution to ensure the security of our region.”
A common compass
In media statements prior to the start of the meeting, Prince Faisal bin Farhan said that about 90 “countries and international organizations” are participating in the two-day meeting.
The Saudi Al-Ikhbariya channel reported on Wednesday that the meeting “includes diplomats and envoys from several countries and regional and international organizations to present a specific timetable for building and implementing the Palestinian state and the two-state solution on the path to permanent peace and peace in the Middle East.”
Diplomats in Riyadh told Agence France-Presse that the meeting is expected to last two days, and includes sessions on humanitarian operations, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), and incentives to promote a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
The diplomats, who refused to reveal their identities, pointed out that the European Union will be represented by Sven Koopmans, the European envoy for peace in the Middle East.
The Gaza war revived talk about a “two-state solution,” one Israeli and one Palestinian, living in peace side by side.
Last month, Prince Faisal bin Farhan, in his speech before the United Nations General Assembly, announced the launch of the “Global Alliance to Implement the Two-State Solution,” noting that it includes Arab, Islamic and European countries
The international coalition represents a new approach towards emerging from the corridors of the two-state solution negotiations, and brings the Arab peace initiative back to the forefront.
Arab experts, whose opinions were previously polled by Al Ain News, considered that the launch of this alliance represents a qualitative leap in Arab action towards the Palestinian issue, and a good step within the Gulf and Arab movements to reach a two-state solution and end the suffering of the Palestinians.
