The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia condemned the statements of an Israeli minister of dropping a nuclear bomb on the Gaza Strip.
The Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed in a statement the Kingdom’s condemnation in the strongest terms of “the extremist statements issued by a minister in the Israeli occupation government regarding dropping a nuclear bomb on the besieged Gaza Strip, which shows the penetration of extremism and brutality among members of the Israeli government.”
The ministry said, “Failing to immediately dismiss the minister from the government and simply freezing his membership reflects the height of disdain for all human, moral, religious, and legal standards and values of the Israeli government.”
The Israeli Minister of Heritage, Amichai Eliyahu, the right-wing extremist, responded to a question in an interview with the Israeli Kol Berama Radio about “whether an atomic bomb should be dropped on the Gaza Strip,” saying that it is “one of Israel’s options in the war on Gaza.” ", according to the newspaper "The Times of Israel".
Eliyahu belongs to the “Jewish Power” party, to which the Minister of National Security, Itamar Ben Gvir, also belongs, and it is the party that supports building settlements and regaining control of the Gaza Strip’s lands.
Eliyahu is not a member of the security ministerial council that participates in decision-making during wartime, nor does he have any influence on the war cabinet that directs the war against Hamas.
Commenting on Eliyahu’s proposal, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that his words were “detached from reality.”
The Israeli Channel 12 reported that Netanyahu issued a decision to “suspend Minister Amichai Eliyahu from government meetings until further notice.”
For his part, the leader of the Israeli opposition, Yair Lapid, launched a sharp attack on Eliyahu, saying that his statement was “shocking, crazy, and issued by an irresponsible minister.”
Lapid added, "The presence of extremists in the government exposes us to danger, and that Netanyahu must dismiss the Minister of Heritage."
The war broke out in Gaza after Hamas launched a surprise attack on October 7 on Israel, during which more than 1,400 people were killed, most of them civilians, including women and children, who fell on the first day of the attack.
Israel responded to the Hamas attack about a month ago with continuous bombing of Gaza, which resulted in the deaths of more than 9,500 people, most of them civilians, including women and children, according to the latest toll from the Gaza health authorities.
