Today, Tuesday, during an extraordinary virtual summit to discuss the situation in the Middle East, especially the Gaza Strip, the leaders of the BRICS group called for declaring a humanitarian truce in Gaza against the backdrop of the ongoing Israeli bombing of the Strip.
The BRICS leaders stated, in a closing statement of their extraordinary summit, “We called for an immediate, permanent and sustainable humanitarian truce that leads to the cessation of hostilities.”
The leaders stressed that “a just and lasting solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict can only be achieved through peaceful means,” calling on the international community to support “direct negotiations on the basis of international law, including resolutions of the United Nations Security Council, the General Assembly, and the Arab Peace Initiative, in order to reach To the two-state solution
The leaders noted “the need to prevent further destabilization and escalation of violence, including the spillover of the conflict into the region, and called on all parties to exercise the utmost levels of restraint.”
According to the final statement, “The leaders affirmed their commitment to the peaceful resolution of differences and conflicts through dialogue and comprehensive consultations in a coordinated and cooperative manner, and to support all efforts leading to the peaceful settlement of crises.”
The statement called for “the immediate and unconditional release of all illegally detained civilians, ensuring their safety and well-being, and treating them humanely and in compliance with international law.”
The summit condemned “acts of violence targeting Palestinian and Israeli civilians, including war crimes, indiscriminate attacks and targeting of civilian infrastructure, as well as all acts of provocation, incitement and destruction.”
The extraordinary BRICS summit also condemned “any kind of forced transfer and individual or collective deportation of Palestinians from their land, whether into Gaza or to neighboring countries.”
