Qatari Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdul Rahman Al Thani said on Sunday that the attack that resulted in the assassination of Saleh Al-Arouri, a senior Hamas leader, complicated negotiations on the release of Israeli hostages held by the movement.
The Qatari Foreign Minister expressed his regret about the continuation of the war between the Palestinians and Israelis in the Gaza Strip at an “escalating pace,” calling for the necessity of reaching a ceasefire in Gaza.
Al Thani's statements came in a press conference with his American counterpart, Anthony Blinken, who is visiting Qatar, during which he explained, saying: “We regret that despite all efforts over 3 months, the war in the Gaza Strip is still continuing and at an escalating pace.”
The Qatari minister added: “It is painful that we have reached a stage where we have become accustomed to images of destruction, killing, and an unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe, with victims turning into mere numbers.”
Al Thani stressed that "the crisis must be contained as soon as possible and a ceasefire must be reached in Gaza," noting that "the threat of displacement is still present and there is an existing threat of a new Palestinian Nakba, as evidenced by the provocative statements of some extremist Israeli ministers."
On the other hand, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken affirmed his country’s rejection of the statements of some Israeli officials about the displacement of Palestinians from the Gaza Strip to other countries, saying: “Civilians in Gaza should not be forced to be displaced and we reject the statements of Israeli officials that talk about resettlement.” Residents of Gaza.
Blinken added, saying: “90% of the population in Gaza faces a food shortage, and we discuss with Israel the need to do everything possible to deliver more aid to Gaza and avoid civilian casualties.” Blinken continued: “We have a shared commitment to ensure that the conflict does not expand and that The emergence of a new front in the region.”
