Amid fears of a confrontation on a new front, the Israeli army announced a military maneuver in the northern coastal strip and the Western Galilee region.
The announcement of the exercise, which will take place tomorrow, comes shortly after the Israeli army announced that it had completed another stage of the Northern Command’s preparations for war.
The army added in its previous statement, titled “Preparing to Move from Defense to Attack,” that “over the past few days, another phase of the Northern Command’s preparations for war has been completed.”
Northern Israel is witnessing almost complete paralysis as Lebanese Hezbollah continues to strike Israeli positions in a border strip along the Lebanese front in the south.
Ready for what?
The Israeli newspaper Jerusalem Post says that the past few months have undergone in-depth learning studies within the Israeli army, based on the lessons learned from the fighting in the Gaza Strip.
The newspaper explained that these studies were intended to improve preparations for the day of receiving orders, in reference to any possible large-scale clash on the border with Lebanon.
Despite the skirmishes that take place from time to time, observers believe that the matter will not expand into a comprehensive confrontation on the northern front, but rather the responses may remain within the framework of “blow for blow.”
But the Israeli newspaper also indicated that these movements on the northern front come within the framework of preparations regarding a possible Iranian response to the attack on its consulate in the Syrian capital, Damascus.
The victim of this strike, which was described as the most dangerous, was Mohammad Reza Zahedi, commander of the Quds Force of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard in Syria and Lebanon.
